Ho Hum Night In College Hoops: No. 1 and No. 4 Lose To Unranked Teams, Continuing To Show Everyone Stinks This Year
Just another night in college hoops this year with No. 1 and No. 4 losing to unranked teams. Not only that but, shockingly (use the sarcasm tone here) they looked terrible. That's because EVERYBODY stinks this year. This just isn't a great team, which means we're going to get nights like this all the time. This is what happens when a bunch of upperclassmen left for the pros and you have a weaker freshman class coming in.
There really isn't much to say about these two games in terms of breaking down what went wrong, but more about the problem with Louisville and Maryland. For Maryland it's just same old Maryland and why I'll never buy into them. Turg is who he is. His teams don't get better and something like this happens way too often. They get in a funk early on, turn the ball over a bunch and have a slow start. They should have lost before the Penn State game. They pulled the Illinois win out of their ass before coming from behind against Temple and Harvard.
As for Louisville, it's two-fold. First, they don't have a good point guard. Ryan McMahon has been around forever and he's more of just a shooter anyways. Fresh Kimble is a transfer who comes off the bench that is shooting 20% from three and turns the ball over a ton. Second, they don't have anyone that is going to beat you off the dribble. The offense is just so stagnant because they can't break a defense down. Nwora should be able to do it and does it time to time but nowhere near consistent enough. They rely on cuts and posts and passes out of there, which is fine a decent amount of the time, but against a Texas Tech defense you need to be able to break it down.
So here we are on December 10th and 4 times the No. 1 team in the country has lost. Next up - Ohio State. There's a legit chance we see 8 different programs be the No. 1 team in the country.
